I WILL FULFILL MY VOWS TO THE LORD
"I WILL FULFILL MY VOWS TO THE LORD IN THE PRESENCE OF ALL HIS PEOPLE"
Psalm 116:19
"I will fulfill all my vows to the Lord in front of all His people" - this is the inscription that adorns the Karlskirche church in Vienna. In 1713, a year after the terrible plague epidemic, Emperor Charles VI Habsburg made a vow to build a temple. Already in 1716, grandiose construction began. The temple was completely built only in 1737 by his son Joseph. Thus, Charles VI's vow was fulfilled. In the photo below you can see this temple more:
And I remember how about 4 years ago I sat under shelling in a self-built chapel and read this psalm. At that time I still didn't know whether I would survive or not and whether I would be able to return to my family, but reading this and similar psalms, I involuntarily thought about what I could promise God to do if I were lucky enough to survive this war.
The chapel was built in the basement of the funeral home where our headquarters was located and was hiding from massive shelling. I chose a room as a place for the chapel that was filled to the brim with all kinds of garbage to the brim. At first, it was visited only by me and my friend - the conductor of the Orthodox choir - Serhiy. But later there was already a real crowd of people who were looking for hope in God, and on the floor they were providing first aid to wounded soldiers.
And one of those promises to God back then was a promise of gratitude and testimony about what God was doing and how He was working in my environment and with my family. But I still have to rethink everything and rethink what gratitude to God means and how I can testify because it is still difficult for me to be grateful for the fact that I survived and returned to my family, realizing that many of my friends died and will never return to their families, many have terrible injuries and disabilities and there are those who still continue to fight. Therefore, because of the "survivor's guilt" syndrome, it is still difficult for me to accept that I should be speaking out words of gratitude and testifying about God's hand that was with me and my family. We still need time for this.
But we decided to start fulfilling our vows. This is our first letter on our blog after my return from the war where I was for 2.5 years and our family reunion. And we want to start it with gratitude. God was truly with us every step of our war life. God was with me, and He was with my family as well. Sometimes it was difficult, sometimes unbearably difficult and it was not felt at all that God was there, but looking back we can say with confidence that He was there. And you were also there - our dear partners and friends.
You were there in these terrible times through your donations and prayers. There is a saying "that a friend is known in trouble". So you are true friends who have passed the test of war. I can't imagine what could be harder than war.. maybe only hunger. But in this extremely difficult time for our family, you were there. Therefore, we thank you for every donation, for every dollar that not only helped us financially, but also showed God's love and care even in those times when we were surrounded by complete darkness. And your prayers paved the way for our reunion and my return from the war. And also, thanks to your prayers, God did simply unreal things where I was and saved my life. Therefore, from the bottom of my heart, I and our entire family are grateful to you for all your prayers and every donated dollar!
You probably already know that we had a daughter, and therefore, as a father of three minor children, I had the right to resign from the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and return from the war. Now we are temporarily living in Hungary, in the suburbs of Budapest. Currently, we are restoring our family relationships, restoring our spiritual and emotional state, and also serving the military, veterans, and their families. Therefore, our ministry has not changed. It is still the same - the ministry of evangelism and discipleship, only now we are doing it for the most needy audience of Ukrainians - veterans, military, and their families.
So we wanted to ask you to continue to pray for our ministry. Please pray for those military and veterans to whom we serve. For the most them, they are not never been in the army. Prior to the war, they were simple teachers, IT, auto mechanics, and cookers, but because of the Russian full -scale war, they were forced to go to defend our country. Pray primarily for their psychological and spiritual endurance and that God will take their lives. And also pray for wisdom for us how to speak about Christ and how to help them. Also pray for our eldest son to get a residence permit in Hungary, he still does not have such a permit, and also pray for all of us, probably because we have been in stress for a long time, quite often various diseases will come out. And also pray for our family emotional and primarily spiritual recovery.
If you do not support our family, or if you once supported and then stopped doing then we will be grateful to you if you start supporting us. Your monthly support will help us get through this time of great changes in our lives more easily and productively, and will also help us continue to serve Christ, bring Him to those around us. And will also help us share the gospel with military personnel, veterans and their families. Bringing faith amidst despair, hope amidst hopelessness, light into the darkness of a crushed heart and a broken spirit.
In the one ministry with you Zhenya and Lena Yazvinskyy
