A lot has happened in our lives and ministry during this time. I will try to focus on some of the more significant events that took place.

Last month, I finally had the opportunity to travel to Poland to see some of my brothers-in-arms. The person I was most looking forward to meeting was Sasha.

I met him on the very first day of my mobilization at the military enlistment office. We went through basic training together, and later ended up in the same brigade and the same platoon. Sasha had a Christian background — as a teenager, he attended a church and even played in the worship band, but over time he lost his faith and stopped going to church.

We quickly connected with each other. It was actually him who, when he found out that I was a believer, suggested that I become a chaplain so I could stay farther from the front line. But I refused that idea, because I believed that God had called me to be right there among ordinary soldiers like Sasha, to witness to them about Christ.

After some time, Sasha’s son was diagnosed with a serious illness. The child received a disability status, and because of this Sasha was able to leave the army. He moved to Poland, where his family had been living, but his own health became much worse there.

Sasha was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, in which his own body attacks his kidneys. Because of this, he is undergoing various treatments and has also received a disability status. In short, this is a very difficult time in their lives.

He had been inviting me to visit for a long time, and finally I had the opportunity to meet him. I really hoped that this time Sasha would go to church with me and that he would finally be able to entrust all the difficulties of his life to Christ. That didn’t happen, but we did have some good conversations about God and were able to restore our relationship.

So please pray for Sasha and his whole family—for his health and the health of his son, and that their whole family would return to Christ.

Since the beginning of the new year, Lena has started training in psycho-emotional support for military personnel and their families. In addition to our own experience, we need to understand what happens to people under prolonged combat stress.

Through this training, we gain practical knowledge on how to help veterans and apply it in our ministry. For this reason, once a month Lena travels to Ukraine for 5–7 days to attend the training, while I stay in Budapest with our three children.

Lena really enjoys this training. It not only helps us serve others but also helps us better understand each other. During the training, she has already met many soldiers, as well as wives of soldiers, including those who are missing in action and those who have been killed.

Please pray that this knowledge would help us in our practical ministry.

Since the very beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, some missionaries from our mission moved to Budapest, where they began serving Ukrainian refugees and immigrants.

Now this ministry has grown into regular meetings and Bible study groups, and the team is considering starting a church for Ukrainians. At the moment, we occasionally meet with this team to discuss the possibility of organizing such a church.

I would be very grateful for your prayers—that Lena and I would clearly see whether God is leading us to be part of those who help start this church, that we would have God’s guidance in this matter, and that He would provide the necessary resources and strength for this ministry.

And finally, on March 26, the first group of 4–5 veterans will come to Budapest to take part in the “Weekend in Europe” project.

The idea of the project is to have a long-term impact on each individual veteran through three different weekend programs (each lasting 4 days) in Europe over the course of one year.

The first weekend will focus on building relationships and addressing the social, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs of each person. The second weekend will include additional challenges in various areas, including the spiritual dimension. The third weekend will be focused on bringing together all participants of the program from throughout the year, along with their families, into one camp. This will create an opportunity to begin ministering to the whole family that has been affected by the experience of war.

As a result, we want to lay the foundation not only for building trusting relationships, but also for creating a veteran community of mutual support and spiritual influence.

Through cooperation with other Christian organizations that support veterans, we also aim to develop a system of ongoing care for these veterans between the weekends in Europe and when they return to Ukraine.

We want to encourage participants of this project to take on the challenge of helping other veterans in their own circles. In this way, we are praying for multiplication and the growth of a spiritual movement among veterans and their families.

So we especially ask you to pray for this first experience, which will take place from March 26 to March 29.

And finally, I want to remind you that none of this would be possible without you and your support. We are deeply grateful to each of you for every prayer and every act of support you give us.

It is a tremendous blessing that makes it possible for us to serve. May God richly bless each of you even more for your involvement and generosity!
